This September Founder’s Box is so special to me. It’s not just the first box of Decor Passport—it’s a box filled with my journey, full of laughter, tears, and joy. This box represents the dream I’ve nurtured since 2018—to create a home decor subscription business that brings the world into your living room.
The process has been an emotional roller coaster, to say the least, but also incredibly exciting. As I step deeper into my 40s, I’ve learned the power of saying "no," of setting boundaries, and of embracing change. This box is more than just decor; it’s a piece of my journey—a journey that’s had its share of challenges, including a last-minute pivot just a week before we shipped it out. But that’s the beauty of life, right? Learning to be resilient, to adjust, and to embrace change.
At Decor Passport, our mission is to uplift global communities through backing fair-trade artisans and sparking local change. Join us in decluttering your home and donating gently used items to a local charity. Together, we can make a significant impact on our world. Share your acts of kindness with us by tagging @decorpassport and using #GetaBoxGiveaBox to showcase how you're driving positive change. You've got this!
Now, let’s dive into the treasures inside your September 2024 Founder’s Box:

Baining Tribal Necklace from Papua New Guinea
We're kicking off this adventure in Papua New Guinea, an island nation rich in culture and history. The centerpiece of this box is a stunning tribal necklace crafted by an indigenous tribe. These necklaces are worn during significant events in their lives, and now you have one to display in your home. This isn’t just any trinket to be tucked away—it’s a showstopper, a piece that will be prominently featured in your home for years to come. It's more than decor; it's a story, a piece of history that you and your children will cherish.
Kisasa Baskets from Uganda
Next, we travel to one of my absolute favorite places—Uganda, where KAZI crafts beautiful, fair-trade baskets. I’m a huge fan of KAZI; my home is practically a showroom of their work. These Kisasa baskets, woven by expert artisans, take days to complete. Yes, you heard that right—days! Each basket is a testament to the skill and dedication of these incredible artisans. You can use this basket for various purposes—like storing faux fruit in your kitchen or adding a touch of greenery (fake or real) to your space. ( photo credit- from Kazigoods.com)
Hand-carved bone and Brass Picture Frame from India

We then move on to the Andhera region in India, where you’ll find a beautiful hand-carved bone and brass picture frame. I’ve met the artisan teams behind this piece, and their work is simply stunning! I love that this frame has a bit of imperfection because life isn’t perfect. This 4x6 frame is super versatile and will fit perfectly with any decor style. Don’t let it sit empty—fill it with a photo of someone you love and let it shine.
White Horn Magnifying Glass & Letter Opener Set
Also included is a hand-carved magnifying glass and letter opener set from my friends in India. It’s as functional as it is beautiful. Feel the weight of it—it’s substantial, isn’t it? You can style this set on top of a book, either open or closed, in your kitchen or office. The possibilities are endless.
Ashanti "Talking Beads"
Let's go back to Africa, shall we! Hand-crafted in the Ashanti region of Ghana, these are glass saucer beads, also known as Talking Beads. They get their namesake from the distinct sounds the beads make when a person moves while wearing them.
Abandoned Islands Coffee Table Book
Finally, let’s talk about the book—“Abandoned Islands from Around the World.” How cool is this? I can’t help but wonder, how much do these islands cost, and can I move there? This book is a fantastic addition to any home. I love using books in home styling; they’re so easy to incorporate. Pro tip: I prefer to remove the dust jacket for a more polished look, but you do you!
Bonus Items:
As a special treat, I’ve included a few bonus items in this box—a deliciously scented candle, a Mexican handmade glass planter bottle, and an exquisite Indian print plate. Each of these items adds a unique touch to your home, creating that well-traveled, curated look we all love.
